Often I get the question about how to get rid of pimples naturally. I think it’s a good question because avoiding drugs is always a good idea. In this article I outline some simple lifestyle changes that will greatly reduce acne pimples.

You probably wonder if it is really possible to get rid of pimples naturally… because acne seems like such a huge problem. And… nothing seems to work.

You have probably “tried everything” you could get your hands on. Most of my acne patients have gone down that same road. They have tried over-the-counter creams, scrubs, etc. In some cases their acne seemed to get worse. In other cases, the products made their skin dry and even more red than usual.

So, is it really possible to get rid of pimples naturally? My answer to that is an emphatic YES!

Acne is an internal problem. Because it is so visible-especially on the face-it seems like it should be curable using external substances. Not true. The simple explanation is an overproduction of sebum in the hair follicles. Hormone imbalance is the most common cause for overproduction of sebum. Combine that with some bacteria, and you get inflammation and eruptions on the skin.

Here are some things you can do to get rid of pimples naturally.

1. Eat more fresh, raw fruits and vegetables. Cutout fatty foods such as pizza, fried foods, fast foods, chocolate, caffeine, cheese and other dairy. 2. Get sufficient sleep every night. That would be seven to eight hours 3. Stop drinking soda 4. Increase your water intake every day to eight-eight oz. glasses 5. Exercise every day. You can walk, swim, jog, dance, or roller blade; but, move if you aren’t already 6. Clean your face twice daily with mild soap-no more, no less. If the acne is on the back, shower twice a day. 7. Wash your hands often and don’t touch your face 8. Don’t pick at your face 9. Reduce stress. If you have friends who are stressing you out, drop them. Talk to your parents if there’s stress at home. 10. Avoid getting overheated. Sweating can worsen an acne flare up 11. To avoid scarring, don’t squeeze pimples 12. Get sun exposure and fresh air every day.

Acne is more common in men than in women. The good news is that almost everyone grows out of having chronic acne by the time they reach adulthood.

There is a genetic component that predisposes certain people to developing acne. But, taking it into your own hands and taking care of yourself properly can virtually eliminate your tendency toward acne.
