Question by Clark Kent: How do people come out with new cosmetics?
What are the kind of procedures?
Does someone put forward claims by the public in general to scientists that produce the cosmetic and get it tested?
It’s for some really important coursework and I can’t find anything on the internet that will help.

First, they think about what they’re going to sell (foundation, bronzer, eyeliner, and etc.)

Then, they think about who their demographic is–teenage girls or older women. If you’re marketing towards a younger demographic, then you may want to use: sparkles, brighter colors (even on the packaging), and anything cute! If you’re marketing towards an older demographic, use words or phrases like “mature” or “natural” and “doesn’t go into lines and wrinkles.”

Scientists ponder about what will go in the products (mica, parabens, and etc.) Will the product be waterproof? Will it be natural? What will it smell like–cinnamon or cucumber?

They also think about if it will be tested on animals or not.

Based on those things, they make a product that think will sell the most. After it’s made, they will test it out and see if it works, price the product, and figure out when it will be available for the public. If the product does well, then they’ll keep it on the market. This entire procedure can last about 2 years–it’s all about trial and error.
